The 64th Thessaloniki International Film Festival will be held from November 2nd to November 12th 2023, both in physical spaces and online. A total of 270 full-length and short films will be screened at the 64th TIFF, in the movie theaters Olympion and Pavlos Zannas (Aristotelous Square), Frida Liappa, Tonia Marketaki, John Cassavetes and Stavros Tornes (Port of Thessaloniki) and Makedonikon. In addition, 79 films will be available online, through the Festival’s platform.
Τhe grand tribute hosted by the 64th Thessaloniki International Film Festival (2-12/11/2023) will unravel the unique and poetic gaze of the renowned film director Takis Kanellopoulos. Within the framework of the tribute nine films of the visionary auteur from Thessaloniki will be screened, while a part of Kanellopoulos’ work will be restored by the Festival, with the support of the Greek Film Centre. The tribute is matched by an original visual art installation dedicated to Kanellopoulos’ work in the fields of cinema and literature.
One of the most renowned film directors in contemporary American cinema, a beloved friend of the Festival and a Greek audience favorite, two-times Academy Award winner director and screenwriter of Greek origins, Alexander Payne, will attend the 64th Thessaloniki International Film Festival (2-12/11/2023) to present his new film The Holdovers, which has been screened at major international festivals, receiving outstanding reviews.
The film The Pot-au-Feu (The Taste of Things) by French-Vietnamese director Trần Anh Hùng, recipient of the Best Director Award at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival, will signal the 64th Thessaloniki International Film Festival’s kick-off on Tuesday, November 2nd, while the film Fallen Leaves by the beloved Finnish director Aki Kaurismäki, will be the Festival’s closing film, screened on Sunday, November 12th. Both films are among the official entries (for France and Finland, respectively) for the Academy Award for Best International Film.
Το 64ο Διεθνές Φεστιβάλ Κινηματογράφου Θεσσαλονίκης σηκώνει αυλαία την Πέμπτη 2 Νοεμβρίου. Το πλούσιο πρόγραμμα της φετινής διοργάνωσης περιλαμβάνει 270 μεγάλου και μικρού μήκους ταινίες, οι οποίες θα προβληθούν στις φιλόξενες αίθουσες: Ολύμπιον, Παύλος Ζάννας, στις αίθουσες του Λιμανιού, Φρίντα Λιάππα, Τώνια Μαρκετάκη, Τζον Κασσαβέτης, Σταύρος Τορνές, καθώς και στον κινηματογράφο Μακεδονικόν. Παράλληλα, 79 ταινίες θα παρουσιαστούν και διαδικτυακά, μέσω της ψηφιακής πλατφόρμας του Φεστιβάλ.
Ο Μαντς Μίκελσεν πρωταγωνιστεί σε μία υπερπαραγωγή εποχής, καθώς συνεργάζεται και πάλι με τον ελληνικής καταγωγής σκηνοθέτη, Νικολάι Αρσέλ (Ο Έρωτας της Βασίλισσας, Μαύρος Πύργος). Ο κορυφαίος Δανός ηθοποιός ενσαρκώνει ένα πραγματικό πρόσωπο, τον Λούντβιχ Κάλεν: έναν μοναχικό λοχαγό ταπεινής καταγωγής, καρπό της παράνομης σχέσης μιας υπηρέτριας και ενός ευγενή, ο οποίος είναι αποφασισμένος να κυνηγήσει το όνειρό του με κάθε κόστος. Η «Γη της Επαγγελίας» κυκλοφορεί στις Κινηματογραφικές Αίθουσες, από την Πέμπτη 2 Νοεμβρίου.
