The 28th Thessaloniki International Documentary Festival will conclude on Sunday, March 15, with a powerful, Oscar-nominated documentary. The Festival celebrates cinema with a live broadcast of the OSCARS® Awards ceremony and an all-night party at the Olympion, while not forgetting the harsh reality that has dominated our planet in recent years.
The competing documentaries are holding their world, international, or European premiere in the Festival, and have their eyes set on the Festival’s official awards, as well the independent awards, most of which are accompanied by cash prizes. The International Competition Golden Alexander winner will automatically be eligible to submit for Academy Awards® consideration in the Documentary Feature category. The American filmmaker will deliver a masterclass in Thessaloniki titled Uncovering the Hidden Frame, where he will discuss his evolution as an artist and filmmaker, specifically addressing how archival footage has played a role in his practice. Vouvoula Skoura will be present in Thessaloniki, and will be bestowed with the Festival’s honorary Golden Alexander, as a small token of appreciation and recognition for her profound and lasting contribution to the art of cinema and contemporary culture. Jean, which will celebrate its international premiere in Thessaloniki, revolves around Elizabeth Jean Carroll, who sued Doland Trump for sexual assault and defamation, being the only woman to ever beat him, and twice as a matter of fact, in a courtroom. The film’s director Ivy Meeropol will honor the screening and the opening of the Festival with her presence.
