Joshua Oppenheimer, two-time nominated for the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature Film, will attend the 65th Thessaloniki International Film Festival to present his latest film The End, starring Tilda Swinton and Michael Shannon. The film will be screened at the closing ceremony of the 65th TIFF on Sunday November 10th, 2024, at Olympion.
The broadened notion of family, in all its contemporary and alternative forms and expressions, as a part of an ever-changing world, is at the core of the “Un-Family-ar” tribute hosted within the framework of the Survey Expanded section of the 65th Thessaloniki International Film Festival. The tribute’s movies cast an out-of-the-box and inclusive glance, reminding us that family is in need of one and only magical ingredient to emerge even in the most unpredictable and unlikely places: unconditional love.
22 full-length films and the 24 short films screened at the 65th TIFF, within the framework of the Greek Film Festival. A total of 18 Greek films will celebrate their premiere at the 65th TIFF, nine of which take part in the Festival’s competition section. The 65th Thessaloniki International Film Festival is held by October 31st to November 10th, 2024.
The renowned American actor will attend the 65th TIFF to present his new film Being Maria (2024) by Jessica Palud. The screening of the film, which revolves around the troubled life of Maria Schneider and is blessed with an outstanding performance by Matt Dillon in the role of Marlon Brando, will take place on Sunday November 3rd, at Olympion.
The new film directed by the renowned Chilean filmmaker Pablo Larraín titled Maria and featuring Angelina Jolie as the main protagonist, will signal the kickoff of the 65th Thessaloniki International Film Festival.
Two myths of world cinema, radiant Juliette Binoche, Academy Award winner and President of the European Film Academy, and beloved Ralph Fiennes, Academy award nominee and an iconic figure of the British theater scene, will honor the 65th Thessaloniki International Film Festival with their presence.
The 65th Thessaloniki International Film Festival posters bear the signature of the acclaimed visual artist Stella Kapezanou, drawing inspiration from the Festival’s grand tribute “We, the Monster” and foregrounding the multiple aspects of womanhood through her work.
Monsters were born almost simultaneously with storytelling, the creation of narrative and the universal and timeless need to give shape and form to our fears, in order to cope with them and face them, and over the centuries they served as a source of inspiration for countless stories of horror, love and acceptance. Gradually, as Western societies acquired structures and regulations, trying to tame the unspoken and the incomprehensible, monsters were banished from the organized frame of society.
