The “poet laureate of lost films” – Spotlight on Bill Morrison and honorary Golden Alexander – 28th Thessaloniki International Documentary Festival

Bill Morrison, heralded by the New York Times as the “poet laureate of lost films”, transforms the film’s distortions into a commentary on the fleeting nature of images, comparing them to memories, ghosts or ciphers. The American filmmaker will deliver a masterclass in Thessaloniki titled Uncovering the Hidden Frame, where he will discuss his evolution as an artist and filmmaker, specifically addressing how archival footage has played a role in his practice. The 28th TiDF, will be held from 5 to 15 March, 2026, both in physical spaces and online.

Ο Μπιλ Μόρισον, ο οποίος έχει χαρακτηριστεί από τους New York Times ως «ο κατεξοχήν ποιητής των χαμένων ταινιών», χρησιμοποιεί τις παραμορφώσεις του φιλμ, ως ένα σχόλιο για τις εικόνες που εξαφανίζονται, παρομοιάζοντάς τες με αναμνήσεις, φαντάσματα ή κρυπτογραφήματα. Το 2025 προτάθηκε για το Όσκαρ Καλύτερου Μικρού Μήκους Ντοκιμαντέρ.
