Fernando Trueba made his first steps in cinema as a film critic, initially at the El País newspaper in the late 70s, and later on as the founder of the monthly magazine Casablanca, in 1980. The same year marked his debut as a film director with the film Ópera Prima. A tribute to one of the most acclaimed filmmakers of contemporary European cinema and recipient of the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film for the film Belle Époque.
Vibrant and fascinating, unraveling heart-wrenching human stories and burning up-to-the-minute issues, the Greek documentaries take center stage at the 26th Thessaloniki International Documentary Festival, which will take place from March 7 to March 17 2024, both in physical spaces and online. In total, 67 full-length and short documentaries from Greece will be screened in the three competition sections, International Competition, Newcomers and >>Film Forward, in the Open Horizons, NextGen, Platform+ and Special Screenings sections, as well as part of the tributes held within the framework of the 26th TiDF.
The 26th Thessaloniki International Documentary Festival honors the completion of half a century since the restoration of the democratic regime in Greece with a series of events that render homage to the brave anti-dictatorship struggle, reminding us that Democracy is not only a form of government, but also an overall way of life and attitude that demands vigilance, sacrifices and self-reflection.
Το 26ο Φεστιβάλ Ντοκιμαντέρ Θεσσαλονίκης διεξάγεται από την Πέμπτη 7 μέχρι και την Κυριακή 17 Μαρτίου. Στο Διεθνές Διαγωνιστικό Τμήμα συμμετέχουν 12 επιλεγμένες ταινίες τεκμηρίωσης, οι οποίες πραγματοποιούν την παγκόσμια, διεθνή ή ευρωπαϊκή πρεμιέρα τους, στη φετινή διοργάνωση. Η ταινία που θα κερδίσει τον Χρυσό Αλέξανδρο στο Διεθνές Διαγωνιστικό βρίσκει αυτόματα θέση στη λίστα προεπιλογής για το Όσκαρ Καλύτερου Ντοκιμαντέρ.
Astonishing documentaries by some of cinema’s greatest filmmakers, such as Steve McQueen, and Frederick Wiseman, as well as illuminating stories featuring notable figures from the art, music, and fashion fields, for example Patricia Field, Édouard Louis, Dario Argento, Anita Pallenberg are coming to the 26th Thessaloniki Documentary Festival (March 7-17, 2024).
Ο Φερνάντο Τρουέμπα ξεκίνησε την πορεία του στον χώρο του Σινεμά ως κριτικός κινηματογράφου, αρχικά στην εφημερίδα El País στα τέλη της δεκαετίας του ’70 και έπειτα ως ιδρυτής του μηνιαίου κινηματογραφικού περιοδικού Casablanca, το 1980. Το 1993 τιμήθηκε με το Όσκαρ Καλύτερης Ξενόγλωσσης Ταινίας για το έργο του, «Μπελ Επόκ». Ο καταξιωμένος Ισπανός σκηνοθέτης θα βρεθεί στην χώρα μας, για να παραλάβει τιμητικό Χρυσό Αλέξανδρο για το σύνολο της προσφοράς του στην Έβδομη Τέχνη και να συνομιλήσει με το κοινό στις προβολές των ταινιών του.
Το 26ο Φεστιβάλ Ντοκιμαντέρ Θεσσαλονίκης σήκωσε αυλαία την Πέμπτη 7 και ολοκληρώνεται την Κυριακή 17 Μαρτίου. Στο πλούσιο πρόγραμμά του, περιλαμβάνονται 250 ντοκιμαντέρ μικρού και μεγάλου μήκους, ανάμεσα στα οποία και 112 παγκόσμιες, διεθνείς και ευρωπαϊκές πρεμιέρες. Το Φεστιβάλ θα διεξαχθεί, στις αίθουσες Ολύμπιον και Παύλος Ζάννας, στις αίθουσες του Λιμανιού, Φρίντα Λιάππα, Τώνια Μαρκετάκη, Τζον Κασσαβέτης, Σταύρος Τορνές καθώς και στον κινηματογράφο Μακεδονικόν. Παράλληλα, παρακολουθούμε ταινίες και διαδικτυακά, μέσω της ψηφιακής πλατφόρμας του Φεστιβάλ.
Στον απόηχο του αιφνίδιου και γεμάτου ερωτηματικά θανάτου του πολιτικού κρατούμενου Αλεξέι Ναβάλνι, ο οποίος διώχθηκε επανειλημμένα από το καθεστώς του Βλαντιμίρ Πούτιν πριν αφήσει την τελευταία του πνοή σε φυλακή υψίστης ασφαλείας στην Αρκτική, το 26ο Φεστιβάλ Ντοκιμαντέρ Θεσσαλονίκης προβάλλει την Παρασκευή 8 Μαρτίου, στην Αίθουσα Τζον Κασσαβέτης, το συνταρακτικό ντοκιμαντέρ «Ναβάλνι» του Καναδού δημιουργού, Ντάνιελ Ρόερ.
Το 26ο Φεστιβάλ Ντοκιμαντέρ Θεσσαλονίκης υποδέχεται τον πολυβραβευμένο Φερνάντο Τρουέμπα, έναν από τους σπουδαιότερους σκηνοθέτες του σύγχρονου Ευρωπαϊκού Σινεμά και βραβευμένο με Όσκαρ Ξενόγλωσσης Ταινίας για την ταινία «Μπελ Επόκ». Η νέα ταινία του, το υπέροχο animation μουσικό ντοκιμαντέρ «Πυροβόλησαν τον Πιανίστα», ανοίγει το Φεστιβάλ το βράδυ της Πέμπτης 7 Μαρτίου, στο Ολύμπιον.
The 26th Thessaloniki Documentary Festival (March 7-17, 2024) announces the films taking part in the three competition sections of this year’s festival edition; the International Competition, the Newcomers competition section and the >>Film Forward competition section. The competing documentaries are holding their world, international, or European premiere in the Festival, while the International Competition Golden Alexander winner will secure its place in the Oscars’ shortlist, for the Best Documentary Feature Academy Award.
