The 65th Thessaloniki International Film Festival posters bear the signature of the acclaimed visual artist Stella Kapezanou, drawing inspiration from the Festival’s grand tribute “We, the Monster” and foregrounding the multiple aspects of womanhood through her work.

This year, at the 64th Thessaloniki International Film Festival), movies from all over the world, screened at TIFF’s competition sections, International Competition, Meet the Neighbors+, >>Film Forward and Immersive, incite us to embark on exciting and deeply humane film journeys.
We are delighted to unveil the 35 full-length and the 22 Greek short films screened at the 64th Thessaloniki International Film Festival. The Festival offers its longstanding support to Greek cinema and the Greek filmmakers through a series of targeted actions and initiatives.
The 64th Thessaloniki International Film Festival will be held from November 2nd to November 12th 2023, both in physical spaces and online. A total of 270 full-length and short films will be screened at the 64th TIFF, in the movie theaters Olympion and Pavlos Zannas (Aristotelous Square), Frida Liappa, Tonia Marketaki, John Cassavetes and Stavros Tornes (Port of Thessaloniki) and Makedonikon. In addition, 79 films will be available online, through the Festival’s platform.
Τhe grand tribute hosted by the 64th Thessaloniki International Film Festival (2-12/11/2023) will unravel the unique and poetic gaze of the renowned film director Takis Kanellopoulos. Within the framework of the tribute nine films of the visionary auteur from Thessaloniki will be screened, while a part of Kanellopoulos’ work will be restored by the Festival, with the support of the Greek Film Centre. The tribute is matched by an original visual art installation dedicated to Kanellopoulos’ work in the fields of cinema and literature.
One of the most renowned film directors in contemporary American cinema, a beloved friend of the Festival and a Greek audience favorite, two-times Academy Award winner director and screenwriter of Greek origins, Alexander Payne, will attend the 64th Thessaloniki International Film Festival (2-12/11/2023) to present his new film The Holdovers, which has been screened at major international festivals, receiving outstanding reviews.
Thessaloniki International Film Festival is delighted to welcome the stunning Monica Bellucci, one of the most dazzling and influential stars of cinema, who will be awarded with the Festival’s honorary Golden Alexander and attend two of the 64th TIFF’s screenings.
The film The Pot-au-Feu (The Taste of Things) by French-Vietnamese director Trần Anh Hùng, recipient of the Best Director Award at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival, will signal the 64th Thessaloniki International Film Festival’s kick-off on Tuesday, November 2nd, while the film Fallen Leaves by the beloved Finnish director Aki Kaurismäki, will be the Festival’s closing film, screened on Sunday, November 12th. Both films are among the official entries (for France and Finland, respectively) for the Academy Award for Best International Film.
The 64th Thessaloniki International Film Festival (2-12 November 2023) is honoring one of the most unique and daring voices of contemporary Greek cinema, beloved Greek director Nikos Perakis, by bestowing an honorary Golden Alexander award for his contribution to cinema. Also, the Festival is organizing a five-movie tribute that brings forth his outstanding work both as a film director and a production designer.
