
The 25th Thessaloniki International Documentary Festival’s tribute will introduce a prolific documentarist to the audience: the multifaceted Austrian filmmaker Nikolaus Geyrhalter, who reconfigures reality into cinematic works of art.
Featuring an impressive number of premieres, the competition sections of the 25th Thessaloniki International Documentary Festival make a pledge to offer you the experiences of a lifetime. A total of 32 world, international and European film premieres take part in the International Competition, the Newcomers competition section and the >>Film Forward competition section. All competing documentaries are in the pole position for the 6 official awards, as well as for the 14 parallel awards, most of which are accompanied by cash prizes.
The 25th Thessaloniki International Documentary Festival will be held from Thursday 2 to Sunday 12 March 2023, both in physical spaces and online. A total of 237 short and full-length documentaries will be screened in the Festival’s historic home turf, the Olympion and Pavlos Zannas theaters, as well as in the Port’s theaters, Frida Liappa, Tonia Marketaki, John Cassavetes and Stavros Tornes, as well as in the Makedonikon theater. In addition, the audience is given the chance to watch films online too, through the Festival’s digital platform online.filmfestival.gr. This year’s lineup showcases a total of 99 world, international and European premieres, marking a TiDF all-time record number!
Vibrant and exciting, the Greek documentaries take center stage at the 25th Thessaloniki International Documentary Festival, which will be held from 2 to 12 March 2023 both in physical spaces and online. A total of 61 full-length and short documentaries from Greece will be screened at the three competition sections, International Competition, Newcomers and >>Film Forward, as well as in the Open Horizons, NextGen, Platform and From screen to Screen sections.
The Festival hosts a tribute to one of the most recognizable voices of Greek documentary, director and producer Stavros Psillakis, whose films observe the world that surrounds us and contemplates on the human psyche. Within the framework of the tribute, ten of his documentaries will be screened. In addition, Stravros Psillakis will be awarded an honorary Golden Alexander as part of a special screening event.
For the poster of the 25th Thessaloniki International Documentary Festival, they asked the artist to draw inspiration from the heart, our inner map and eyes in a world that is constantly getting bigger and smaller at the same time. In cinema, as well as in the arts as a whole, the heart stands as an ever-lasting symbol, a reminder of the human condition, whether filled with joy or broken in pieces.
A multifaceted and intriguing tribute to observational documentary, titled «The Art of Reality: Beyond Observation» is hosted by the upcoming 25th Thessaloniki Documentary Festival (2-12 March, 2023), accompanied by a special bilingual edition. Masterpieces of world cinema redefine our perspective and interpretation of life and the world, while masterclasses from acclaimed international and Greek filmmakers unfold the secrets of this fascinating cinema genre.
